Confused

Confused by Adejola Joseph

Laid back, I was confused

This torrent of doubt

This bleakness and darkness

What am I going to do?

I am at the crossroad

In between two opposite directions

Should I keep going?

Or stayed back?

Voices in my head

Confusion here and there

Confused.

Ingrate

Ingrate by Adejola Joseph

Ingratitude of an ignorant

A daylight robber and abuser of opportunities

An ingrate is a time waster

A simple murderer

He doesn't appreciate

And when he does it is flattery

Helping an ingrate is like pouring water in the basket.

Ingrate.

Write

Write by Adejola Joseph

When sleep in your eyes like a deluge,

I picked my pen and write to my depth

My pen is a roaming spirit within the four walls of my legitimate poky chamber

A writer with pomp and pageantry

My pen could wake the dead and cure the brokenhearted

I am the Shakespeare of our time

The Langston Hughes of the 21st century

I am your poet

Your metaphysical, psychological and philosophical poet.

Write.

I write to my depth

Pen is power

Power of the night only God can control

If you sleep you will sleep

If you wake you will wake

Write.

I write to my depth

I am your poetic monster,

The hands of fate no man can tame

Providence knows the path I take

He will judge every decision I make

This shadows and rays of hopelessness

Where will I hang it?

Because I don't need it.

Write.

I write to my depth

Life is never a tragedy,

Neither a bed of roses

Life is what you make of it

Good or bad,

We will live to see its end

Write

I write to my depth

Who can control the speed of my pen?

The acceleration of my mental explosiveness?

Who can control my instincts?

My figurative insanity?

Am I not too hot to handle?

Too acidic and sulphuric?

I burn like hot coals

Highly inflammable like gas!

Am I not your nightmare?

Your poetic nightmare?

Can you have sex in a dream?

Can a child run a race?

Where is Usain bolt?

Where is Martin Luther king Jr?

Where is 2Pac Makavelli?

Hey! Where is Adejola Joseph?

Are these not talented heroes?

Dreams deferred will explode or ,

Run like a running nose or

Sags or,

Fester like a sore

Write

I write to my depth

I am not sleeping

Sleeping is for the weak

Strong men sex the night

And lust the morning and afternoon

I am a mystery

Mystery untold for ages

I am Adejola Joseph

Your poetic punchliners and lyricist

Goodnight and sleep in the morning

Write

I write to my depth

I am the Ogedengbe 1 of Ijeshaland

The mystery and phenomenon of poetry!

One and only olowo ori oko Adenike Ifeoluwa Ishola

Baba Gideon, Baba Sarah Baba Demilade

Ijaya gbogbo Irojo Ilesha lapapo

Wole Soyinka of Adeniyi's Dynasty

Ekun oko gbogbo awon oponu ati Omo ale lapapo

Ijesha parapo

Write

I write to my depth.

Upside down

Upside down by Adejola Joseph

Confusion in the air

Rage, anger, acrimony and animosity

Things have fallen apart

The centre cannot hold anymore

Upside down

What do we do?

Where do we go to?

I see people running helter skelter

Tears lending all eyes to pour

Children scattered on the streets like a kite in the air

Mothers ranting

Fathers nagging

Sisters carrying a bucket instead of a spoon

Confusion rage and anger in the air

Upside down

Everything has turned upside down

Economy is not smiling

Naira is now worthless

Hunger is still biting

Aggression is still barking

Where are we going to?

The country is still sleeping

Upside down

Everything has turned upside down

We need a change to sail

We need a hand to rise

We need a shoulder to mount

We need a leader to lead

Nigeria will rise

But we have to rise

The leader and the led must rise

It is time to soar for a greater Nigeria

Upside down

Everything has turned upside down

Nigeria.

My message of hope for my country Nigeria. Professor Adejola Joseph. An award winning poet from Osun State Nigeria. Author of Cracks On The Walls (poetry) 2022.

Desperate

Desperate by Adejola Joseph

Heat in a cold weather

Stone plucking of an unripened fruit

Expectation of a full grown corn in a dry season

The jingling of a bell at noon for students in the morning

Desperation is an anxious expectations

The anticlockwise of a time on a sunny day

Desperate

A desperate man can go an extra mile

He can undo the undone

He can kill to live

He can steal to breathe

Desperate.

Dreamer

Dreamer by Adejola Joseph

Like Usain bolt on the track

My days sprinted to the dusk

Challenges wearied my soul

But as the breeze blew, off my eyes the scale is dropped

Having it fixed to the goal

It's scripted in my head

The roadmap on my feet with the guidelines on my palm

Needing Providence to the gate

As my eyes got fixed to the goal

What will be will be

The hands of fate tameth no man

Even astrologers knoweth not my fleeting days

Whisking whisking whisking to my rest

Wait!

I'm still breathing!

Still running the race

As my eyes is firmly fixed to the goal

Dreamer.

Malia Obama the illustrious queen of America

Malia Obama by Adejola Joseph

Sweet Malia! Beautiful Malia!

Predictably, as gentle as a dove

And, harmless as firmament!

The simplistic planetic queen of evolving epoch

One in a trillion - the very air I breathe in!

Oh! Sweet Malia

Hypnotizing specie of dignified worth!

Woman of ennobling qualities

A pearl much lovelier than a rose

You are a charming empress

An indispensable commodity in Obama's gallery of universal princesses

Oh - joy unspeakable!

An imaginative sight of you set the rhythm of my heartbeat on course!

My heart is devastatingly explosive like H2SO4 acid at the slightest thought of mere touching the edge of your fingers - sweet Malia!

I love you!

America is a mean city!

Just too poky to build a castle for my virtuous feminist - princess Malia!

Loving you is an understatement

Why?

Because you are like the silky gazelle of the esteemed paradise blazing reliance on me in a blissful beam!

Integrity adorns your priceless neck like the evergreen undethronable the most beautiful queen Elizabeth of England!

I love you

Affluent lady of blessed generation

All I have I give you

A heart filled with love and compassion

I love you.

Special dedication to Malia Obama the daughter of Barack Hussein Obama of America.

Mama

Mama by Adejola Joseph

Breast milk from the cistern of grace

So pulchritudinous specie you are called Eve

Mama... ocean of love

You are mama

Mother is a priceless jewel

An adorable gift

Heaven's blessing

So wonderful you are named a mother!

I love my mother

I love her so much

Mama

Like a hen,

So protective and guarding

She is a mother

A woman so adorable

Complex but simple

Mama

Mother does not sleep when you sleep

She goes hungry when you are well fed

She is on a mat when you are on the bed

Always on the road for you not to roam

Mother

I love you mama

Let the world stand still for a woman of timbre and steel

She is an iconic image of Jah

A priceless commodity

So indispensable she is a mother

A wonderful mama

I love you mother

I love you mama

Mama

Grace upon thy head mama

Providence bless thy seeds

A woman

A life giver

A mother

A tutor

A symbol of tolerance

An endurance enigma

Gentle and meek

Adorable product of Providence

She is a mother

So unique and vibrant

She is a mother

I love you so much

I love you mama.

Where to?

Where to by Adejola Joseph

Where are we going to?

Destination seems not far

But it appears it is

Life is a series of complexities

Where does this road leads to?

Where to?

I have been here a while

I have seen it all

But many things still left undone and unseen

Where to?

Where?

Where to?

Demilade Ayomiposi Malia Joseph

Demilade Ayomiposi Malia Joseph by Adejola Joseph

Spring out of ocean

Water in the desert

My sweetest princess

You are the epitome of beauty

Virtuous than all the glamours of rubies

My daughter

My pearl

I love you so much

I love you.

Poem from a father to his daughter.

Book and ministry

Book and ministry by Adejola Joseph

Warring in my member

Book and faith

Which way to go?

Confused as a delayed menstruation

Confounded as an ambushed soldier

I fought and thought

Jah leads the way

Victory is sure

Victory is certain

Hallelujah

Amen.

Casket

Casket by Adejola Joseph

Six feet deeper

Deeds of man is questioned

How did you live your life?

Time to give account

Every man will die

Surely, every man will taste death

But death is not the end of a journey

It's a transition to the unknown and to the unseen

Casket

I rejoice at the day I see my casket

It's a homecoming

Glorious homecoming

Casket.

Free me

Free me by Adejola Joseph

I want to be free

A bird in the air

A fish in the sea

A lion in the forest

A man on the soil

A cat in its track

I want to be free

So, free me

Freedom is priceless

Freedom is a gift

Freedom is joy

Freedom is heaven

Freedom is fun

I want to be free

So, free me

Free me like bondage is a chain

Free me like incarceration is a sin

Free me like a prisoner on parole

Free me like a game out of trap

Free me like a child out of the womb

Free me like water flowing from the stream

Free me like a goat out of the rope

Free me like a prophet on the mountain

Free me like a plane in the air

Free me like a ship on the sea

So, free me.

I refused to be on the spot

I refused to stay on the spot

I am going to the promised land

Land flowing with milk and honey

So, free me.

Never let go

Never let go by Adejola Joseph

There are things beyond the expression of words

You are such a classic empress

One in a million

The one who makes the world beautiful

I love you more than words can say

So, I will never let go

Never let you go away

Never let go.

One night stand

One night stand by Adejola Joseph

Your breast is like the firmness of a ripened apple

Beautiful to the core

You are a diamond

One night stand

Give me one night stand

I can't wait

Hoping for a brace

One night stand I asked

Because you are all I need in a woman

One night stand.

Cracks on the walls

Cracks on the walls by Adejola Joseph

If a wall is not opened

Lizard cannot enter

When a friendship is not broken

There can never be a crack on the walls

Wall has ears

The king's ears at home

The king's ears in the city

That is human for you

Cracks on the walls

When there was a country

When there was a country by Adejola Joseph

When there was a country

One naira was equal to one dollar

Free education was a prerogative of the rich and the poor

There was security and economic buoyancy

Light, good road and good health care was paramount

Nigeria was a haven of peace

All things went well

But, now, things have changed

Corruption is the order of the day

When there was a country

When there was a country

No stealing, no robbery no treachery no feud no animosity

When there was a country

No death, no tragedy, no fight, no worries no anxiety

When there was a country

No struggle for power, no tussle, no fight, nothing

All is well that is well

When there was a country

Better than the best

Better than the best by Adejola Joseph

Better than the best

Lyrically incomposable

Infatuations of idealist

Permutations of scientist

Schools of thought of the psychologist

Variant opinions of mathematicians

Part of speech of the grammarians

Miracles of the clergies

I am better than the best

Better than the best.

Envy

Envy by Adejola Joseph

Envy

Sores of a leper

Injury of a bigot

Pollution of a fanatic

Sadness of a sadist

Sorrows of a misogynist

Conspiracy of a traitor

Envy

Envy is murderous

An envious person can destroy or damage anything good

Envy

Envy is a sword in the heart

Piercing the body and the soul

Envy

Never be envious no matter what

Because envy will push you to the desert where there is no water.

Envy.

Secret

Secret by Adejola Joseph

Secret

Like a lighted candle covered or buried under a mountain

So is secret kept or hidden for ages

Secret is an invisible phenomenon

A mystery kept until the day of disaster

Secret is like unborn child in the womb;

Issues discussed behind closed doors

Secret.

Learn to keep a secret

Don't run a porous or loose mouth

It is what is hidden that has a value

Secret.

Black poet

Black poet by Adejola Joseph

His skin is black but his heart is white

His tongue is honey and his hand is spirit

He is a mirror of reality

The reflection and shadows of things to come

He is the revelation of the Providence

The truth untold for ages

He is black,

Powerful,

Strong,

Bold,

Dynamic,

Iconic,

Principled,

Honest,

Disciplined and charismatic.

Black poet.
