Hope To The Hopeless

My little princess,

cruel as you may be,

I stayed awake through nights

with a heart heavy with sighs,

with tears that never dared to fall.

I wondered whether you grew enough

to dream,

to hope beyond measure,

to see the world as a dazzling melody,

to feel it in its native goodness.

To hope and dream so vast

your heart would tremble with fear,

with the quiet doubt that time alone

could ever be enough

for dreams to ripen,

for hope to dress itself

in vivid colors.

Alas, time

like the wings of a bird

was never something a mortal could enslave,

never something he could live by

as it stretched beyond his grasp.

Oh, my little angel,

cruel as you may be,

were you ever given the chance

to see the world

saturated with warmth and light,

to see beyond the dead chill

of hospital rooms,

the sharp breath of antiseptic?

Were you allowed

to see the world as it truly is,

in its terrible beauty,

in its faithful misery?

Oh, my little princess,

I stayed awake wondering

how hope sounds

in the ears of the hopeless.

Does it echo like fleeting lies

drawn from the deepest pit?

Does it taste more bitter

than the truth you learned to hold?

Did you ever feel it?

Did it taste like mournful rainbows,

bursting with chance,

yet pressed beneath

the weight of grief?

Oh, dearest

cruel as you may be

was it yesterday

when life could no longer carry you,

when your dreams and your hope

fell silent with you?

Was it a relief

to leave me behind,

to decide I was better alone,

unburdened by tears,

released from grief?

Been writing for a while now.

Needed an audience ✌️❤️‍🩹
